About

1863 Ventures was a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit organization founded in 2016 by Melissa Bradley, dedicated to supporting Black and brown entrepreneurs, often referred to as "New Majority" founders. The organization aimed to bridge the gap between entrepreneurship and equity, striving to generate $100 billion in new wealth for these communities by 2030. Over its operational years, 1863 Ventures provided business development programs, mentorship, and access to capital, assisting over 3,200 early-stage and growth-stage founders across various sectors.

These efforts led to nearly $300 million in revenue generation and the creation of over 2,000 jobs. In November 2024, the organization's board voted unanimously to close its nonprofit arm, transitioning its mission to a new for-profit entity named New Majority Ventures. This strategic shift aims to enhance support for underrepresented founders by providing more targeted investments and resources.
