About

TotalEnergies Ventures was the venture capital arm of TotalEnergies, focusing on investments in climate technology and clean energy sectors. Established in 2008, the fund aimed to support startups developing innovative solutions to promote carbon neutrality. Over its operational years, TotalEnergies Ventures invested in 86 companies, including notable firms like Ambri and Ionic Materials, and achieved 13 successful exits.

The fund's investment areas encompassed energy, manufacturing, oil & gas, climate tech, clean tech, advanced materials, and hardware. In 2019, the fund was renamed Total Carbon Neutrality Ventures, with a planned investment capacity of $400 million over five years. However, in May 2022, TotalEnergies announced the winding down of its corporate venture capital unit to focus on an accelerator model, shifting towards smaller, earlier-stage investments.

By May 2023, TotalEnergies had sold its entire climate tech portfolio to Paris-based VC firm Aster, marking the conclusion of its venture capital activities.
